You can add a comm log entry for a sales order

Configuration

With the sales order open in Edit mode, select the CRM tab.
Click +New and populate as required.

Notes/Caveats 

Entries made against a sales order will also be visible from within the [CRM | Leads (Comm Log)] and [Company | CRM | Communication Log)] screens.
