Client Query - Exchanges for US KCC Clients only
Question/Problem
None of my Level 2 Stock Types have a TaxJar Product Tax Code recorded against them. In this scenario, how do I perform an exchange for an Out Of State sales order and not have KCC applying tax to the exchange?
Resolution/Solution
We are currently working on our TaxJar integration so you can assign Product Tax Codes as required. In the mean time, for out of state exchanges, please follow the steps below to ensure tax is not applied to the outgoing exchange note.
Create the return
- Open the original sales order.
- Select all items on the order.
- Click the Actions button.
- Select Create Customer Return Note.
- In the popup, click Yes and then Continue.
- Enter a return reason for item - if you wish to amend the list this can be done in [System Setup | System Data].
- Green select the item(s).
- Click on the Actions button
- Select Direct Exchange.
- In the popup, click Yes and then Continue.
- The item will be added to the bottom grid.
- Click Save Return.
Process the return
- Click the Actions button.
- Select Process Return.
- Click Yes and then Continue in the popup. This lets you know that the system is creating a credit note to pay for the exchange items and that a return exchange sales order has been created for the items that are going out to the customer.
- Select the Processing tab where you can see the status of the return, for example if the credit note has been issued.
- Click on the Actions button.
- Select Issue Credit Note. This makes the credit note available to use to pay for the items going out to the customer.
- In the popup, click Yes and then Continue.
- Click on the Actions button.
- Select Allocate Credit Note to Exchange. This allocates the payment to the return exchange.
- Click on the Actions button.
- Select Goto Exchange Note.
- The exchange note is basically a sales order and will likely need to have the tax turned off for out of state orders.
- Select the Additonal Tab.
- Click Edit.
- Disable the Calculate VAT toggle.
- Click Save Sales Order.
- Click the red X at the top to close this screen (the order will be in Staging).
- You will now be taken back to the return screen.
- Click on the Actions button.
- Select Issue Returns Note. This completes the process.
